- Great Pottery Throw Down 2022 - Week 1
In the first week it is always difficult to gauge who the great stars will be. In the throwing challenge no-one actually seemed that competent but then they were being asked to undertake a repetition throwing challenge and that is no easy task (as someone who makes mugs that tend to vary slightly in size can confirm), and of course people must be very nervous. I always think that if your throwing is weak it would be very difficult to win the competition, but then again if you can’t model, handbuild and devise and develop a creative idea then you won’t either.
But there was some lovely work produced: well made, playful, and on brief – all of which bodes well for the coming weeks.
So my favourites were: Christine’s white set, Lucinda’s (which won the main make), Anna’s which had some lovely modelling, plus I liked Jenny’s rocket lidded egg cup. I also liked Tom’s three eyed monster egg cup.
I would like to include some photos in this blog but unlike last year, they haven’t put any up on Insta – hope that changes...
Good luck to all the competitors and goodbye to Bill – tough to go out in week one but them's the rules.
