. . . asked a friend from dancing when I told them what I did for a living. Well apparently yes they do, but then how many opportunities does the besuited man get to express his individuality – precious few! Self expression comes in the form of interesting choice of tie, cufflinks and in a few unfortunate cases socks! The problem for would be cufflink wearers and cufflink givers is that most cufflinks are franky either dull or flashy. There are countless worthy but not very exciting silver cufflinks on the market, and a lot of equally unexciting enamel ones. Then there are the chunky hand made glass cufflinks if you feel your wrists need a daily work out, and also the super bling bejewelled cufflinks for those who feel their super bright stripey shirt isn’t shouting loud enough on its own.
Then of course there are all the jokey cufflinks – quite fun the first time someone sees them but jokes can only be told so many times!
I’m not saying I make the only nice cufflinks in the world,
Sally Lees aluminium cufflinks are really lovely, but people do seem to find mine refreshingly different. The comments I get at trade shows are always along the lines of “how nice to see something original”.
So long may men – and women – continue to wear cufflinks. “Vive les boucles de chemise!”, “Viva los gemelos”, and yes of course “long live cufflinks!”.
