It’s not often that the words castle and cosy are linked in the same sentence but
Hever is without doubt a very cosy castle. The kind of place that you could in fact enjoy living in. The day I went to visit it was one of those lovely balmy days in March when it suddenly seemed that spring was here and we were in for increasingly beautiful weather over the coming months – proving that ignorance is indeed bliss!
Ashley who runs the shop at Hever was very attentive and generous with his time, taking me round the castle and the grounds, as well as treating me to lunch in their lovely restaurant. The castle is famous for its connection to Anne Boleyn who grew up there and it has a very impressive collection of Tudor portraits.
It also has a working drawbridge – though Ashley didn’t let me play with this – a maze, and some wonderfully illustrated prayer books.
It has lovely leaded light windows throughout in myriad patterns, and beautifully ornate window locks - both of which I photographed many times!
I am hoping to produce some nice pieces based on the latter . . . I’ll keep you posted!
